Could the use of anabolic steroids be a contributing factor to relapse rates amongst men recovering from stimulant induced hypersexual compulsive sexual behaviours-Chemsex ?

Any clinician working with individuals using recreational drugs to intensify sexual activity, regardless of sexual orientation, can corroborate the critical side effects of regular usage. For one, this usage switches to dependency, which becomes detrimental to the patient’s health.

This complex correlation between the individual and their drug dependency for sexual activity can lead to the extent where the person can no longer have sex without the drug. Additionally, inaccessibility to the drug can cause behavioral compulsions where the person has no control over their actions.

To terminate this dependency, the individual must withdraw from any sexual activity for six to twelve months before reintroducing it.

This article will look at how anabolic steroids can significantly increase the risk of relapse among men dependent on sex drugs. We’ll divide this into two sections: the impact of steroids on a person’s sexual desire and impulse control. Both these factors primarily contribute to drug relapse.

Anabolic steroids are principally used to enhance physical performance and muscle building. However, doctors also prescribe them for conditions like low testosterone, delayed puberty, post-illness
